Humanitarian perspective
Humanitarians work towards advancing the well-being of humanity as a whole. The Millennium Development Goals form a basis for humanitarian ideology.
There is a large group of organizations, social sector organizations with the humanitarian perspective; this group falls apart in (1) the United Nations and its sub-organizations and (2) NGOs and its categories and typologies.
Peter Drucker was the first to coin the term social sector organizations, and published many business- and management literature on this topic. The social sector organizations can be divided in two groups:
  • The United Nations and its sub-organizations.
  • NGOs and its categories and typologies.

United Nations

The United Nations officially came in existence on 24 October 1945. Presently, there are 191 member states. Sub-organizations of the United Nations are: IAEA, IMF, UNCTAD, UNDP, UNEP, UNESCO, UNHCR, UNICEF, WorldBank Group and WHO.
The purposes of the United Nations are to maintain international peace and security; to develop friendly relations among nations; to cooperate in solving international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems and in promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; and to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these ends.

NGOs

Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) or nonprofit organizations are private organizations in the social sector. The first two words are putting an emphasis on what this sector is not, rather than calling attention to its focus on a social mission.
NGOs are private organizations that pursue activities to relieve suffering, promote the interests of the poor, protect the environment, provide basic social services, or undertake community development.
